Master: »Computer Science and Media«*    

Within the webinar we will present our university and our Master’s programme »Computer Science and Media«*. Members of our academic and administrative staff as well as some students will give a short introduction into our programme and will be available for discussions and individual questions concerning the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Master’s degree programme »Computer Science and Media«*.

Key facts about the programme:

·All courses are taught in English

  • The standard duration for the programme is 4 semesters
  • The focus of the programme is on research areas in Computer Science with a high relevance for the development of Digital Media 
  • Applicants are expected to have earned a first degree in Computer Science or a related field. The applicants should have great interest in performing research in Computer Science. Some experience in performing research is expected, as, e.g., could be gained by writing a research-oriented Bachelor Thesis.  

    Key facts about the study course:

  • The 1st semester is mainly about getting traction in the key areas of expertise (see below).
  • In the 2nd and 3rd semester, the students will continue with such courses, but they will also spend half of their time with research projects in small groups. 
  • In the 4th semester, students will finally write their master thesis on a topic of their choice. The programme is leading to the award of a Master of Science degree.

Our Master students for »Computer Science and Media«* are invited to choose courses from different research areas, such as media security, data mining, information retrieval, machine learning, visual analytics, optimization, mathematical modelling, mobile media, human-computer interfaces, usability, graphics, computer vision and visualisation.

Our students are from several areas around the world: Western and Eastern Europe, Indian subcontinent, north and south America, Africa, etc. We are looking for interested students with a strong scientific Bachelor degree in Computer Science or within a related area like Mathematics or Computer Engineering.  

Our graduates find employment in the R&D departments of companies in the automotive, telecommunication, software, gaming and animation industry, as well as at academic institutions in Germany and overseas. A specialization in Computer Science with focus on media opens the door for employment and research in innovative areas such as system development, algorithm development, data analysis, data mining, scientific visualization, image processing, physical simulation, interface development and testing and security protocols development.
* in Summer Semester 2017, the study course will be renamed to »Computer Science for Digital Media«
